Title of the Report

Appropriate report titles should indicate the variables used in the study. So, LabWriteUp creates titles based on the data you entered for the dependent and independent variables.

Due to the complexities of the English language, this can work well sometime and other times it can lead to strange results! Nonetheless, read each title carefully and select the one that captures the essence of the study, rather than whether it makes grammatical sense because you can just edit it!

Once you have selected a suggested title, its text will appear in the text box so you can then edit it.

When you are happy with the title, then do a word count. The 5th Edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association suggests that titles be between 10 and 12 words, ideally. Sometimes, though, this is just not possible, so shorter or longer titles are OK if it is clear why.

Running Head
In a word processor, such as Microsoft Word, each page can have the same text at the the top of each and every page (page header). This is known as the running head and should not be longer than 50 characters (about twice as long as the example in the above screen shot). When you create your draft report in a format suitable for a word processor, the running head you type here will appear as a header on each page (and located top right of the page). Each page will also have the page number inserted next to the running head automatically.

The text for a running head is usually a short version of the title or one that just mentions one or two variables.
