References
This is the reference database. You can add, remove, or edit a reference to the database. The citation is the text for the reference that appears in the main body of the report (such as the introduction). The full reference is the text that appears in the references section at the end of the report.
Add new entry To add a new reference to the database enter text for the citation, such as Fulcher (2003). Next, enter the full reference, such as Fulcher, E. P. (2003). <i>Cognitive Psychology.</i> Exeter: Learning Matters.
The <i> tag will be interpreted as "change font to italic" and </i> means "change font to normal". These font changes will happen when you save as an rtf file - save the file so that it can be opened and edited in a word processor. So, the above reference will be formatted as:
Fulcher, E. P. (2003). Cognitive Psychology. Exeter: Learning Matters.
You can use the buttons to insert the italic tag marks.
When a new entry is added the list will be sorted alphabetically. If you want to reverse the order in which they are listed click the 'Citation' title bar.
Remove entry To remove a reference from the database, just select the item to be deleted (either citation cell or full reference cell) and hit the 'Remove entry' button. Save edits You can make changes to the entries in the list and when you do so, you must hit 'Save edits'.
Inserting a reference in the main text
It is easy to insert a reference in the main text, such as in the introduction section of the report. Suppose we have some text as below:
We want to insert a reference at the point where the cursor is, so we click the button 'Insert a reference' and the database appears in a new window:

Select the reference you want to insert. If you want to insert more than one, hold down the control key, which looks like this and select each item in the list you want to insert
Then click 'Hide' to hide this window and return to editing the text. If the character before the cursor is an open bracket '(' then the reference is inserted like this:
It has been argued that the values we attach to objects form the basis of our preferences but that our preferences may be made without our full awareness (Fulcher, Mathews, Mackintosh, & Law, 2001)
In other words if you want the reference within a bracket, then type the open bracket before inserting the reference. Otherwise, the reference will be inserted like this:
Fulcher, Mathews, Mackintosh, and Law (2001) have argued that the values we attach to objects form the basis of our preferences but that our preferences may be made without our full awareness.
