The Abstract

The initial text for the abstract is gathered from text previously entered:

The Aims is taken from the aims of the Aims & Hypothesis section.

The test for the Design and Method is taken from the basic design (definitions of the independent and dependent variables) and from the procedure (where it requests information for the abstract).

The Results text is taken from a description of the results, but not the result itself.

The Conclusion is drawn from the Discussion section (Conclusion).

It is important to edit this text carefully so that it paints a coherent picture of the study. In LabWriteUp you can create either a structred abstract or a normal (single paragraph) abstract.

Structured Abstract
A structured abstract is one that has four or five subheadings rather than a single paragraph labelled 'Abstract'. In LabWriteUp the headings are:
Aim
Design
Results
Conclusion

Normal Abstract
A normal abstract is a single paragraph of about 120 words.

Normally, an abstract should be about 120 words in length. There is a word count button on the Abstract page.
It is not usual in an experimental abstract to cite more than one previously published item.
